When I think the world is about to blow apart

When I am feeling joyless, Plant a new song in my heart O God. When I am too adult to let go with shouts of Hosanna to Jesus, the gentle king on a donkey, Call forth this praise that is the basic purpose of everything that has breath. When I am thinking I am great or my group is great, Remind me that it is the Lord who is great and worthy of praise. When I am thinking that money gives us direction. Teach me with the widow’s mite that I am called to serve God not money. When I am feeling weak, Fill me with the strength and glory of God. When I drift into thinking the leaders of some religious group are in charge, Help me to say with the Psalmist, “The Lord reigns.” When I think the world is about to blow apart. Fill my heart with the reality that the world is firmly established by God; It cannot be moved. When I am dull and living a boring life without vision, Open the eyes of my heart to see the majestic mountains and the steady

Joe Wishard

Joe Wishard Joe was my first cousin but we were raised more like brothers on farms next to each other.   We were in the same class in school and on the same sports team and went to church together until we graduated from high school. Joe was a man who could be tested and stand the test.   I remember playing on the Fannindel Falcons football team with him when we had been beaten badly by a team that should not have won. The next week Coach McGhee pushed the whole team very hard and said he wanted the weak and lazy to be driven to quit.   Joe ran faster wind sprints than I did, but his example to keep going made me want to keep going.   He did that all his life as we were close from childhood until he graduated to heaven Thursday morning, 4/18/13. He kept solid in the basics.   He was a loving husband, father and grandfather and put this commitment as a bedrock principle.   He was an independent thinker, but sensitive to the views of others.   He served his siblings in their

A Prayer for Boston

One Nation Under God There as been a significant influence of Godly people in America for many years. One nation under God was placed into our pledge of allegiance in 1953. In that spirit I send out this prayer for Boston Oh God, The news from Boston today makes us feel miserable. Keep us safe. We are depending on you God. You are our God, have mercy on us. We count on you from morning to night. We are in your hands. You are a good and forgiving God. You are bighearted to those who ask for help. We ask for help. God, please pay attention to our cry for justice to those who harm innocent children. When we are in trouble we call on you. We are in trouble. There is no one quite like you among the gods, O Lord. Train us to walk straight during crooked times. Then we will follow your true path. Put our nation together with one heart and one mind. Help us to be undivided at this time. On Nation Under God. From the botto

God bless America on tax day, April 15th.

Reasons for Optimism Tax day in America is a big day.   How can it be that America has the biggest economy in the world?   How does it happen that when it is time to give to the poor around the world, America steps up?   It is because God has blessed America.   We have the means to bless others and do so cheerfully.   We can send the strongest of soldiers abroad and they will find ways to bond with children with something as simple as a soccer ball. Okay.   I’m a homer when it comes to America.   Criticize me if you choose.   Today I don’t care.   I’m filled with optimism. Why you may say? 1.        God had the power through the Holy Spirit to resurrect Jesus from the grave.   True on Easter and true ever other day.   If He can do that He can do anything. 2.        I will not get my attitude from the right and left wing extremists whether they are religious or atheistic.   I will get my optimism from Jesus Christ, my teacher. 3.        I will not worry. God has pr
