Relax when around policemen and everyone.

Relax. I can get very nervous around people I don't know. I get uptight partially because I want to come off as better person than I am.  (Especially policemen) This morning in my reading I was reminded: "If you are a disciple of Jesus you can relax.  God is in control."  Twice in the past year I have been driving and not noticing my speed as I should when a servant of God, (read Policeman) was noticing my speed.  They turned on their lights.  I pulled over. I tried to pray and be "at ease". Both men appeared to see that I was relaxed.  They asked some questions and checked my records and they chose to give me a warning instead of a ticket which I deserved and I told them so. (Do you remember John Candy in Trains, Planes and Automobiles?) I like the way Eugene Peterson describes Jesus' teaching about how to life a good life: Matthew 6.30-33 “If God gives such attention to the appearance of wildflowers—most of which are never even seen—don’t you th

Let us be a happy warriors for Jesus.

Be a Happy Warrior. A dull, negative pessimistic warrior is a negation the message of Jesus. I believe Jesus was a happy warrior.   He was often accused of being a glutton and drunkard because He celebrated life as compared to the dour sects who fasted and looked empty and bedraggled as they fought against the ways of the world.   His disciples stood up in the midst of the town that crucified Jesus and were very confident. I remember what Luke wrote: Acts 4. 13-14 They couldn’t take their eyes off them—Peter and John standing there so confident, so sure of themselves! Their fascination deepened when they realized these two were laymen with no training in Scripture or formal education. They recognized them as companions of Jesus, but with the man right before them, seeing him standing there so upright—so healed!—what could they say against that? (The Message) Paul put it this way, Philippians 4. 4-5 Celebrate God all day, every day. I mean, revel in him!

God wants to help us make changes that improve us.

Early in this year I hear Jesus reminding me, “Larry, don’t stick your head in the sand when there are changes needed to improve your life.   God loves you and wants these good things for you.” I read this verse today, “ But if you make yourselves at home with me and my words are at home in you, you can be sure that whatever you ask will be listened to and acted upon.” John 15.7 The Message Have a great day!
