5.2-Twisting truth to make yourself appear wise is not wise.

God is the great creator. He brings peace and order. Chaos is the tool of the evil one. It destroys. I must use the too little self control I have to receive grace, mercy and peace in order to metamorph out of my caterpillar flesh into my butterfly spirit. God help me to be a new creation today with new and more loving behavior. James 3.13-18 13-16  Do you want to be counted wise, to build a reputation for wisdom? Here’s what you do: Live well, live wisely, live humbly. It’s the way you live, not the way you talk, that counts. Mean-spirited ambition isn’t wisdom. Boasting that you are wise isn’t wisdom. Twisting the truth to make yourselves sound wise isn’t wisdom. It’s the furthest thing from wisdom—it’s animal cunning, devilish conniving. Whenever you’re trying to look better than others or get the better of others, things fall apart and everyone ends up at the others’ throats. 17-18  Real wisdom, God’s wisdom, begins with a holy life and is characterized by

4.30-Do not be afraid of people not liking you. Don't be afraid. Be yourself and be fearless.

Mark 4. 13  He continued, “Do you see how this story works? All my stories work this way. 14-15  “The farmer plants the Word. Some people are like the seed that falls on the hardened soil of the road. No sooner do they hear the Word than Satan snatches away what has been planted in them. 16-17  “And some are like the seed that lands in the gravel. When they first hear the Word, they respond with great enthusiasm. But there is such shallow soil of character that when the emotions wear off and some difficulty arrives, there is nothing to show for it. 18-19  “The seed cast in the weeds represents the ones who hear the kingdom news but are overwhelmed with worries about all the things they have to do and all the things they want to get. The stress strangles what they heard, and nothing comes of it. 20  “But the seed planted in the good earth represents those who hear the Word, embrace it, and produce a harvest beyond their wildest dreams.” Giving, Not Getting 21-22

4.29-Live where love and truth meet and you will have a fruitful, effective life.

Mark 4. 4  1-2  He went back to teaching by the sea. A crowd built up to such a great size that he had to get into an offshore boat, using the boat as a pulpit as the people pushed to the water’s edge. He taught by using stories, many stories. 3-8  “Listen. What do you make of this? A farmer planted seed. As he scattered the seed, some of it fell on the road and birds ate it. Some fell in the gravel; it sprouted quickly but didn’t put down roots, so when the sun came up it withered just as quickly. Some fell in the weeds; as it came up, it was strangled among the weeds and nothing came of it. Some fell on good earth and came up with a flourish, producing a harvest exceeding his wildest dreams. 9  “Are you listening to this? Really listening?” 10-12  When they were off by themselves, those who were close to him, along with the Twelve, asked about the stories. He told them, “You’ve been given insight into God’s kingdom—you know how it works. But to those who can’t s

4.28-Generosity causes generosity. Stinginess impoverishes.

4.27-Do not shoot yourself in the foot. God's love allows freedom to reject His grace and love and mercy. Don't do it. Receive His Love!

Mark 3. 13-19  He climbed a mountain and invited those he wanted with him. They climbed together. He settled on twelve, and designated them apostles. The plan was that they would be with him, and he would send them out to proclaim the Word and give them authority to banish demons. These are the Twelve: Simon (Jesus later named him Peter, meaning “Rock”), James, son of Zebedee, John, brother of James (Jesus nicknamed the Zebedee brothers Boanerges, meaning “Sons of Thunder”), Andrew, Philip, Bartholomew, Matthew, Thomas, James, son of Alphaeus, Thaddaeus, Simon the Canaanite, Judas Iscariot (who betrayed him). Satan Fighting Satan? 20-21  Jesus came home and, as usual, a crowd gathered—so many making demands on him that there wasn’t even time to eat. His friends heard what was going on and went to rescue him, by force if necessary. They suspected he was getting carried away with himself. 22-27  The religion scholars from Jerusalem came down spreading rumors that he wa

The Art of Encouragement

The art of encouragement. I recently was working out and feeling quite useless and tired out. I met a guy, Bill, who told me that I looked more like 55 years old than nearly 70. I felt like thanking God for his poor eyesight, but I did not. Encouragement. We all wait for it and need it. It is to feel useful and needed. It is a summons for our help. It feels good to be needed. This is especially great when people overcome barriers. These recognize our unique value to affirm us. Another form of encouragement is when someone reduces the burdens placed upon us by wrongful, toxic and legalistic religious systems. They set us free from unnecessary burdens. When we realize that God is wanting to help us it is a great encouragement. Our Father in heaven strengthens us at times confronting us but always building us up as His children. God has a welcome mat out for all of us who want to live in love and peace. He trains us how to feel at home in our friend

4.26-Could Jesus be furious at religion? Yes. Especially when it is not compassionate but hard hearted.

Mark 3. 3  1-3  Then he went back in the meeting place where he found a man with a crippled hand. The Pharisees had their eyes on Jesus to see if he would heal him, hoping to catch him in a Sabbath infraction. He said to the man with the crippled hand, “Stand here where we can see you.” 4  Then he spoke to the people: “What kind of action suits the Sabbath best? Doing good or doing evil? Helping people or leaving them helpless?” No one said a word. 5-6  He looked them in the eye, one after another, angry now, furious at their hard-nosed religion. He said to the man, “Hold out your hand.” He held it out—it was as good as new! The Pharisees got out as fast as they could, sputtering about how they would join forces with Herod’s followers and ruin him. The Twelve Apostles 7-10  Jesus went off with his disciples to the sea to get away. But a huge crowd from Galilee trailed after them—also from Judea, Jerusalem, Idumea, across the Jordan, and around Tyre and Sidon—sw

4.25-Those who apply legalistic rules in a way that harms people are not following God.

Mark 2. 23-24  One Sabbath day he was walking through a field of ripe grain. As his disciples made a path, they pulled off heads of grain. The Pharisees told on them to Jesus: “Look, your disciples are breaking Sabbath rules!” 25-28  Jesus said, “Really? Haven’t you ever read what David did when he was hungry, along with those who were with him? How he entered the sanctuary and ate fresh bread off the altar, with the Chief Priest Abiathar right there watching—holy bread that no one but priests were allowed to eat—and handed it out to his companions?” Then Jesus said, “The Sabbath was made to serve us; we weren’t made to serve the Sabbath. The Son of Man is no lackey to the Sabbath. He’s in charge!” Psalm 82. 82  God calls the judges into his courtroom,      he puts all the judges in the dock. 2-4  “Enough! You’ve corrupted justice long enough,      you’ve let the wicked get away with murder. You’re here to defend the defenseless,      to make sure that underdogs

4.24-Those who follow Jesus are interested in the sick. It is in our pain that we cry out to God and He helps us.

Mark 2. Strolling along, he saw Levi, son of Alphaeus, at his work collecting taxes. Jesus said, “Come along with me.” He came. 15-16  Later Jesus and his disciples were at home having supper with a collection of disreputable guests. Unlikely as it seems, more than a few of them had become followers. The religion scholars and Pharisees saw him keeping this kind of company and lit into his disciples: “What kind of example is this, acting cozy with the riffraff?” 17  Jesus, overhearing, shot back, “Who needs a doctor: the healthy or the sick? I’m here inviting the sin-sick, not the spiritually-fit.” Feasting or Fasting? 18  The disciples of John and the disciples of the Pharisees made a practice of fasting. Some people confronted Jesus: “Why do the followers of John and the Pharisees take on the discipline of fasting, but your followers don’t?” 19-20  Jesus said, “When you’re celebrating a wedding, you don’t skimp on the cake and wine. You feast. Later you may nee
