Families Who Won't Quit

Image
“We had two couples to visit us recently.  They became our "adopted family" during our thirty-three years in Colorado. We felt truly energized by their visit.  Both men were in the transportation business prior to their retirement. Couple one:  He was a pilot for an major airline while she owned a business.  Couple two: He was a truck driver with an amazing million-mile record of safety and she also owned a business.  Different jobs, different temperaments and personalities.  From my perspective, they both have outstanding families. What do these two couples have in common?  They never give up.  They have had very hard and deep family challenges. They could easily have been destroyed by these.  They never quit.  They kept following Jesus.  They cried out in prayer in the hard times. They are real 24/7/365 people.  WYSIWYG. "What you see is what you get." They are overcoming. Larry Wishard

You might be a Pharisee if.....

You might be a Pharisee if…. -You are someone who is distracting Jesus' followers from being compassionate with people in need. -You are someone who adds extra burdens to people who are hurting. -You are someone who is not concerned about growth and change. -You are someone who wants to be comfortable. -You are someone who doesn’t want to deal with pain and suffering. -You are someone who worries about following the rules of their religious group more than following Jesus. -You are someone who wants to be in the majority. -You are someone who doesn’t reveal your inner self. -You are someone who wants to be first.   You are win/lose rather than win/win. -You are someone who likes divide and conquer scenarios. -You are someone who doesn't  interrupt your opponent when he/she is shooting themselves in the foot. Luke 13. Larry Wishard

" Yearning for the Presence " — Daily Heartlight for 09/09/2013 Written by Phil Ware   We ache without "this." We long for "this." Something inside us drives us to find "this." Most addiction seems to be a deep yearning for "this," but we end up replacing "this" with shallow shortcuts to a false sense of security, significance, comfort, or meaning. Some people have even referred to "this" as the God-shaped hole in all of us. What is the "this" we are talking about? The "this" has been called a number of things: ·          The Presence. ·          The nearness of God. ·          A sense of the Holy Spirit's indwelling inside us. ·          The recognition of Jesus' tangible presence in our lives. ·          An experience of the Holy that touches something deep inside of us. Our "this" is Immanuel — God with us ( Matthew 1:23 ) . Je

We lost our dad to Alzheimer's on April 18, 2013 at 67 years of age and a long hard fought battle. He fought the good fight, finished the race, and kept the Faith. Although, we miss our hero in overalls we know he is Home with his Lord where his mind and body have been made new. An avid writer, Daddy, started this poem after a doctor's visit in 2008, but never completely finished the poem due to the progression of Alzheimer's. I refuse to give in to anything I can not see, pronounce, spell, or understand. I am leaving it up to God. He has promised "I will not forget thee or leave me I am thy Redeemer I will care for thee." Nothing is wrong I have given all I had. My mind is just worn out. My grace is sufficient I hear him say. I am having trouble seeing it that way, But I'm sure I will come to see For God has always taken good care of me. Regardless of the outcome it will be ok. For He will walk with me all the way. F

My Favorite Quotes of Football Coach, Darrell Royal

“When you get to the end zone, act like you’ve been there before.” “Old ugly is better than old nothin’.”   “As long as a person doesn’t admit he is defeated, he is not defeated — he’s just a little behind and isn’t through fighting.”     “I don’t count on the boy who waits till October, when it’s cool and fun, then decides he wants to play. Maybe he’s better than three guys ahead of him, but I know those three won’t change their minds in the fourth quarter.” "God gives talent, size, speed. But a guy can control how hard he tries." "I want to be remembered as a winning coach, but I also want to be remembered as an honest and ethical coach." "You've got to think lucky. If you fall into a mud hole, check your back pocket—you might have caught a fish."

Do not fear!

Do Not Be Afraid A weak and fearful person, like myself, who decides to follow Jesus will probably notice that angels and Jesus say these words often, “Do not be afraid.”   Jesus came to change the world and did so.   This is not accomplished by “shrinking violets”.   It requires boldness to spread good news when the world is addicted to bad news, cynicism and nihilism (nothingness). I watched as Anne Lamott was interviewed by Tavis Smiley regarding her new book, Stiches .   She recommended that we should make ourselves as big as we are in God.   Dogs smell fear and we should not allow fear to rule our attempts to make a positive difference in people’s lives.   She said that the world has different ways to put Jesus followers out of commission.   You’re too old, too fat, too sick, too poor, or too rich.   These are ways of trying to get us to not tell the Good News that we know is true in Jesus.   God is love.   Jesus knew this and taught it.   It resonates with people bec

There is none righteous. No not one.

Sue Ellen Freedan developed a program for prisoners in Kansas at the Lansing Correctional facility.  Through classes each week, she helped them to help each other and true repentance happened.  She taught them how to respect themselves and each other.  Her motto: “Every person has a beast and an angel inside.”
