Refreshing Our Spirits With Scripture

 3.2- Job satisfaction. Many farm kids are blessed to not remember when they first went to work because it was blended with family and play time. After jobs as farmer. grocer, butcher, teacher, principal, youth minister, counselor, chaplain, missionary, writer and trainer, I have noticed how people succeed in their work. Show up on time. Sober. Alert. Don't leave early. Do your job with a joyful attitude. Think about what you are supposed to be doing to help you customers and the company. Do the job as if the company owner were the customer. Under promise and over deliver. Expect to be paid what you were promised. Do not expect to be congratulated for doing your duty. When a failure happens admit it and correct it as soon as possible. Do not expect work to be easy. Be thankful for your job and the strength and health to do it. If this job provides food, shelter, health insurance as well as a feeling of being useful then you are blessed. Be satisfied with what you are called to do,

 3.1- There are clouds that start to grow deep and dark and we fear the dangerous storm. Then instead of moving away from us it move toward us with velocity and tornado force life destroying power. We experience loss. Searching for some refuge we cry out to God and we see a light. It is some new help new energy for one more moment or hour and night passes, dawns light another day and some fresh hope. Once a man named Peter was about to drown on a lake in storm. He looked and saw Jesus. He walked toward him through the storm and on the storm water. But as he started looking at the storm he started to sink. God help us. I am so saddened by my Texas friends suffering in this firestorm and praying a prayer of thanks for those helping. They use their time and resources to do for others what they can not do for themselves.They are messengers from God. God please bless the panhandle with rain. James 5.  2.29- Having someone who understands is so helpful during times of suffering. Our God came to earth and learned by his suffering. "Lonely, twisted, tortured, nails through hands and feet, back lacerated, limbs wrenched, crown bleeding from thorn pricks, mouth dry and intolerably thristy, plunged in God forsaken darkness," as John Stott wrote. If you are going through hard times it comforting to know that the teacher understands. I could not worship a God who could not be touched by our suffering.  2.28- April 8 is the day of the eclipse. The order of the universe is awesome. The designer of the universe is full of mercy and compassion. He has set up a communication system so that we can talk to each other from heart to heart. He cannot lie and has promised his children that they will live with him forever if they want to receive his love, grace, mercy and peace. He has arranged things so that we can talk with him directly without going through any gatekeepers. Wow!  2.27- Heaven is a place of beauty, perfection, friendship and love without anything wrong and everything right and God's glory overflowing. Only one of these, Sheila, has finishished her work.  2.26- The front porch. This 92 degree February day is a nice surprise. We used the swing for cooling off and conversation. Mom and dad would greet us here when we arrived for summer vacation. Mom shelled peas here. Dad and mom visited our big city cousins who dropped by and caught up on family memories. When we left not sure if we would see each other again they would wave goodbye. Front porch memories, Rich and precious.
