Our 52nd Anniversary

SHEILA AND I DON’T AGREE ABOUT

The marriages that Sheila and I admired as we dated were full of grace and truth. We didn’t see our families of origin as having arrived as model families though they were trying to achieve very successful family lives. They needed grace, mercy and forgiveness as we do.

We are celebrating our 52nd anniversary today. We have been blessed with the ability to celebrate life. We have daily long talks.

Regarding our past anniversaries, after our children left home we celebrated on 00 years and 05 years by going on trips to New York, Washington D.C., Boston, Maine, Denver, Durango, Colorado, Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge, Tennessee. Our children and grandchildren celebrated with us on Thanksgiving and Christmas aligning with their work schedule.

Sheila and I are total opposites – maybe that’s why we talk so long every day.

SHEILA AND I DON’T AGREE ABOUT:
Dallas Cowboys or Denver Broncos.
Dogs or Cats.
Early or Late.
Dress – Comfortable, Sloppy, Nerdy or Casual, Business Casual.
5 Second rule.
Thermostat at 74 or 76.
Loud or Quiet.
That every post needs to be a mini-sermon.

THERE ARE SOME THINGS WE AGREE ABOUT.
Used, reliable cars are good.
Exercise is good. Skipping exercise is bad.
Mexican food, BarBQ, Caesar salad, pizza, peaches, nectarines, grapes, Gala apples are good.
Silence can be a good response when tempted to argue with family and friends about things that don’t matter that much to Jesus.
To give your children roots and wings is good.
To run with wise people is good.
To delight in the words of Jesus Christ is very good.
To pray for each other, children, grandchildren, in-laws, parents, sibs, cousins, friends in Jesus, and enemies is good.

We are blessed much more than we deserve.
Jesus Christ came into the world to save sinners among whom we are the worst.
We need God to be merciful to us – we are sinners.
We need to grow in submitting to God and each other.
We cannot choose our circumstances, but we can choose our response to circumstances.
People can bear fruit in old age.
We need to grow in being full of grace and truth.
We need to praise God Sunday through Saturday.
Thanks to all of you who read this and share our lives and love and make our lives richer.
