 3.14-

Memories of Fern Pierce.

Acts 9:36-37 Now in Joppa there was a disciple named Tabitha (which when translated means Dorcas); this woman was excelling in acts of kindness and charity which she did habitually.  But it happened at that time that she became sick and died;

In Aurora there was this disciple named Fern Pierce.  She was excelling in acts of kindness and charity which she did habitually.

When she died all the people stood around weeping and showing all the things that they had that reminded them of the things she did with them while she was with them.

Her home. The meal prep.  Jerry was her assistant.  Caught him not folding the mixture. “Jerry, you are stirring, not folding.”  Jerry said, “You are just a frustrated school lunchroom manager with no one to manage but me.” Everyone laughed. Glorious, heavenly feast table setting. Her rolls.  Her salads.  Her desserts were to die for and the table conversation was hilarious and meaningful.

Her church building. Her cradle roll class with babies who became mothers and brought their babies back to Fern to teach them about Jesus. Could there be any greater compliment?

Her school lunchroom.  She knew all the kids names and games. Their first work boss was maybe their best at kindness and hard work together.

Her stores where she shopped for bargains.  King Soopers. Kohls.  She could find bargains like no one else.

Her beloved Ponderosa.  The peace and quiet of an early morning with visits from the hummingbirds. “There is a place of quiet rest near to the heart of God.”

Her vacation trips and more.  Pepperdine with Sheila and me and other friends. Fern tried to make sure we absorbed everything that we possibly could.  Her reports of the vacations to Branson.

She loved to enjoy life and to include her family and friends in that beautiful love.  No one loved her family more than Fern.  She was with them in the good times and the hard times.

As a teenager we learned a song that comes into our hearts in the context of Fern’s life.

“Heaven is a beautiful place.

Filled with glory and grace.

I want to see my Savior’s face.

Heaven is a wonderful place.”

If her life had any message, it seems it would be to love God and each other, enjoy life here on earth and set yourself up to enjoy heaven’s beautiful life forever.

We celebrate her finishing her work and being carried home by Jesus.

Thank You God for giving us Fern Pierce.

Acts 9.

36 Now in Joppa there was a disciple named Tabitha (which when translated means [u]Dorcas); this woman was [v]excelling in acts of kindness and charity which she did habitually. 37 But it happened [w]at that time that she became sick and died; and when they had washed her body, they laid it in an upstairs room. 38 Since Lydda was near Joppa, the disciples, having heard that Peter was there, sent two men to him, urging him, “Do not delay in coming to us.” 39 So Peter got ready and went with them. When he arrived, they brought him into the room upstairs; and all the widows stood beside him, weeping and showing all the [x]tunics and garments that Dorcas used to make while she was with them. 40 But Peter sent them all out and knelt down and prayed, and turning to the body, he said, “Tabitha, arise.” And she opened her eyes, and when she saw Peter, she sat up. 41 And he gave her his hand and raised her up; and calling the [y]saints and widows, he presented her alive. 42 It became known all over Joppa, and many believed in the Lord. 43 And Peter stayed in Joppa many days with a tanner named Simon.
