Why does God allow hard things in the life of His children?

I saw Ginny Owens on television for the first time today. She was playing the piano and singing songs of praise to God.

She had some sight until three years old. Then none.

Her parents encouraged her to live a normal life. She climbed trees. She road bikes. She learned to play piano. She became a great singer and song writer. She believed that God had given her strength to use her situation to show his love and peace.

Then there was a time that her vocal chords wouldn’t work properly. She thought her singing career might be over. She said she felt that again at a new place in her life she had to totally trust God through this great loss.

She released again her life to God. He led her to a vocal coach who was used to help her use her voice in the correct way and she continues to sing to bring glory to God whom she loves.

John 9.
9 As he went along, he saw a man blind from birth. 2 His disciples asked him, “Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?”
3 “Neither this man nor his parents sinned,” said Jesus, “but this happened so that the works of God might be displayed in him. 4 As long as it is day, we must do the works of him who sent me. Night is coming, when no one can work. 5 While I am in the world, I am the light of the world.”
6 After saying this, he spit on the ground, made some mud with the saliva, and put it on the man’s eyes. 7 “Go,” he told him, “wash in the Pool of Siloam” (this word means “Sent”). So the man went and washed, and came home seeing.
