 6.3-

Escape keys. Have you ever had a child or workman or even yourself who accidently locked a bathroom door and closed it. I usually stash an escape key over the door. When we catch ourselves having made a mistake in our moral standards we are given several different important escape keys.
The Dallas Stars ice hockey team had their team leader make such an major violation only 3 minutes into the game that he was bounced from the game and suspended for two more games. He took an opponent's hockey stick and pressed it into his neck. He hurt himself and his team for three games. Unfortunately he didn't own it and do a mesa culpa. He tried to cover it up and made an excuse.
The keys to recovery have been taught by wise men for 2,000 years plus. Admit you are a human who messed up. Blessed to not have seriously hurt the guy. Ask forgiveness of God, the player, your team and be humble and seek forgivess. Get on to receive forgiveness, enjoy it and forgive others as you have been forgiven. Do your time. Own it. Learn from it and move forward. When handled with humility and honesty most people will accept you. If someone doesn't pray, for them and move on.
With every failure and temptation there an escape key. Jesus said on the cross, "Father forgive them for they know not what they do."

1 Corinthians 10.
12 So, if you think you are standing firm, be careful that you don’t fall! 13 No temptation[c] has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted[d] beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted,[e] he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.
