Memorial Day. Praising God for our Hope.
Monday, Memorial Day.
Luke 23.
44 It was now about noon, and darkness came over the whole land until three in the afternoon, 45 for the sun stopped shining. And the curtain of the temple was torn in two. 46 Jesus called out with a loud voice, “Father, into your hands I commit my spirit.”[e] When he had said this, he breathed his last.
47 The centurion, seeing what had happened, praised God and said, “Surely this was a righteous man.” 48 When all the people who had gathered to witness this sight saw what took place, they beat their breasts and went away. 49 But all those who knew him, including the women who had followed him from Galilee, stood at a distance, watching these things.
I have some more “centurions” of sorts who have praised God
and declared that Jesus was a righteous man.
I wish to thank all of my family and friends who served their country
and worked for our freedom.
These have served and gone to their reward. They blessed the country and my family and I
want to thank God for them on this memorial day. This list is incomplete so please add if you
know my own friends whom I have left out.
Fred Adams. Ed Fink. Robert Grant. Beau Hicks, (Normandy) Bob Hines. Jim Jeffers. John
Petree. James Phillips. (Iwo Jima) Howard Self. LeonWassenar. Aurthur Reed Wishard. Joe
Wishard. Ronald Wishard.
Their life may have been shortened by the part of their life
they gave. I owe them so much for the
freedom to worship God and spread the good news of Jesus. Thanks be to God for them.
These veterans continue to serve our country and encourage
me in my life.
Greg Barker. Bob Barnes. Tony Garrido. Bill Harrell. Henry
Kell. Rod Lambertz. Bill Luttrell. Jeremy Maxwell. Kevin Morrow. Steve Mullinx.
H. L. Milton. Jimmy Milton. Richard Pettit, Gavin Prejean. Jerry Pierce. Frank
Sanchez. Kevin Smith. Erik Raymond. Thomas Rogers. Jerry Sherlin. Jerry Suitor.
T.A. Taylor-Hunt. Jimmy Wilhite. David Tranovich. Tammy Tranovich.
To each of these I want them to know that their service to
the country I love is not forgotten. I
hope and pray God’s blessings on them.
Some people who are been in the American military and
have served and also were friends and family were not on this list. Some served so quietly and humbly that I
didn’t remember their service. That is
common for many whom I wish to honor on Memorial Day, 2013.
Jesus’ death was glorious, but even more glorious is that He
is risen and we will be reunited with Him and the children of God someday
beyond all the wars of this earth. His
way was to lay down our lives for others and we will receive a greater life
than we can imagine. May God help us to
keep doing this daily.
In Jesus Christ
Larry Wishard
