What I learned from Rick the moving guy
What I learned from Rick the moving guy.
He sent a man ahead of him in a small car to make sure the path was clear before he came in the big truck. He arrived on time. He worked with the guys. He invested in his young nephew who was not properly learning work habits because there was no father in his home. He went beyond the call of duty to load things that we had not been properly packaged, but which we wanted to move. When we arrived in North Richland Hills at our home on the morning he was to arrive he sent a man ahead of him in a small car to make sure the path was clear before he came in the big truck. He had recruited a crew on both ends that reflected his own work ethic and integrity. It will sound strange to some of you, but I felt like having our group worship Jesus in a short prayer circle before they left. We did and they seemed to not think it strange.
God is very generous. Don’t ever argue about the way He blesses others, but rather focus on gratefulness for how He has blessed you.
If you follow Jesus you have a leader who is forming for you an easy yoke and a light burden. The situation in which He places you and the guidance He gives to work in it perfectly fit you. When you have a heavy day you can go to Him and allow Him to help you carry the burden. His yoke is easy and His burden is light. Why? Because He is humble and gentle.
This doesn’t mean the path with Him has no suffering. All paths have suffering. With Him we are being trained to be a servant and to volunteer to lay down our life as a ransom for others. We need to keep developing a servant spirit by saying and meaning it, “What can I do for you?” We need to hear this from God to receive the support from Him to get accustomed to not being overwhelmed.
A secret verse you might have never read before in the Bible surfaced for me this am. I was totally forgetful that I had read it.
2 Chronicles 14.11. Do you remember it?
11 Then Asa called to the Lord his God and said, “Lord, there is no one like you to help the powerless against the mighty. Help us, Lord our God, for we rely on you, and in your name we have come against this vast army. Lord, you are our God; do not let mere mortals prevail against you.”
“Have compassion on people around you.” I hear this when I read Jesus at times. I can be hard hearted at times. This is not good. All my relationships with people, family, friends or work are enriched when I have compassion. With God’s help this is an easy yoke. With Jesus help it is light burden.
When Rick left my house he was very happy. Hard work with a successful completion and all his crew seemed exceptionally happy. I tried to be as generous as possible with them with a “tip” to reflect how they had helped me. You may think that living with Jesus as you teacher is a hard yoke and a heavy burden, but other paths are even harder. Thank God for His generosity with us.
“Lord help me to be as generous as you are. Amen.”
Matthew 20.
