8.27-Real freedom is the freedom to forsake rebellion and lawlessness and learn to live well in community.

8.27-
1 Peter 2.
¹³ Submit yourselves for the Lord’s sake to every human institution, whether to a king as the one in authority, ¹⁴ or to governors as sent ^[p]by him for the punishment of evildoers and the praise of those who do right. ¹⁵ For ^[q]such is the will of God that by doing right you may silence the ignorance of foolish men. ¹⁶ Act as free men, and ^[r]do not use your freedom as a covering for evil, but use it as bondslaves of God. ¹⁷ Honor all people, love the brotherhood, fear God, honor the ^[s]king.
¹⁸ Servants, be submissive to your masters with all respect, not only to those who are good and gentle, but also to those who are ^[t]unreasonable. ¹⁹ For this finds ^[u]favor, if for the sake of conscience toward God a person bears up under sorrows when suffering unjustly. ²⁰ For what credit is there if, when you sin and are harshly treated, you endure it with patience? But if when you do what is right and suffer for it you patiently endure it, this finds ^[v]favor with God.

Christ Is Our Example

²¹ For you have been called for this purpose, since Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example for you to follow in His steps, ²² who committed no sin, nor was any deceit found in His mouth; ^23 [w]and while being reviled, He did not revile in return; while suffering, He uttered no threats, but kept entrusting Himself to Him who judges righteously; ²⁴ and He Himself ^[x]bore our sins in His body on the ^[y]cross, so that we might die to ^[z]sin and live to righteousness; for by His ^[aa]wounds you were healed. ²⁵ For you were continually straying like sheep, but now you have returned to the Shepherd and ^[ab]Guardian of your souls.

Psalm 

85 O Lord, You showed favor to Your land;
You ^[a]restored the captivity of Jacob.
² You forgave the iniquity of Your people;
You covered all their sin. ^[b]Selah.
³ You withdrew all Your fury;
You turned away from Your burning anger.

⁴ Restore us, O God of our salvation,
And cause Your indignation toward us to cease.
⁵ Will You be angry with us forever?
Will You prolong Your anger to ^[c]all generations?
⁶ Will You not Yourself ^[d]revive us again,
That Your people may rejoice in You?
⁷ Show us Your lovingkindness, O Lord,
And grant us Your salvation.

^8 [e]I will hear what God the Lord will say;
For He will speak peace to His people, ^[f]to His godly ones;
But let them not turn back to ^[g]folly.
⁹ Surely His salvation is near to those who ^[h]fear Him,
That glory may dwell in our land.
¹⁰ Lovingkindness and ^[i]truth have met together;
Righteousness and peace have kissed each other.
^11 [j]Truth springs from the earth,
And righteousness looks down from heaven.
¹² Indeed, the Lord will give what is good,
And our land will yield its produce.
¹³ Righteousness will go before Him
And will make His footsteps into a way.
