5.19- Houses and wealth are inherited from parents, but a prudent wife is from the Lord.

Proverbs 19.
14 Houses and wealth are inherited from parents,
but a prudent wife is from the Lord.

Exactly four years ago today at this exact time almost we were looking for a house for the first in a long time.

When I graduated from college in 1968 I had little idea of exactly what I would do in my life.  I coached and taught school for a few years.  Then I got the bug to be retrained and go into ministry.  I did so and worked in Dallas/Mesquite, Abilene  and Denver/Aurora Colorado for 42 years.  With the help of our parents and the churches where we worked we were blessed to buy a house in 1977.  Paid 45k for a new house in Denver.  Can you believe that?

Four years ago this week a strange thing happened.  For the first time in over thirty years we were asking God in prayer to give us wisdom about where to live.  Because most of our family lived in the DFW area and our son lived in ***, we believed it was to be *** Texas.  My son had been looking online for us for about a month and he had sent some slides from Red Fin real estate to have us look at some.  None of the pictures grabbed us by the collar and said, “This is you and Sheila.”  They were nice, but we weren’t sure.

Then on Wednesday, 5.17.13, at about 8pm we got this picture a house with a bunch of windows.  I didn’t think it would be there on the market when we got to it.  I suspected it would be sold for price higher than we could afford.

Still,  I was struck by it.  “Sheila, get over here and look at this.  We were headed to Texas on tomorrow and we have not seen anything like this.”  Sheila loved this house.  This had come to us only two days prior to our trip and houses were going like hot cakes in NRH at that time (as now, or even moreso now.)

We flew into DFW and drove to my brother’s and his wife’s place in NRH.  We went to bed and I slept lightly.  Up early for me and did some prayer and meditation as is my practice.  At about 1pm we had a scheduled a meeting with our expert realtor, Debra Biggers of Keller Williams.

On 5.19.13 at about 1pm she met us at our meet up location and asked what did we want to see first of the five she had found.  “We want to see the house on *** first.”  We drove straight to the house.  We walked in and it was exactly as the pictures had depicted it. (A big surprise.)  All on one floor.  Small compared to our Denver house.  Big enough for retired people.  Windows on every wall wherever a window could be.  I had known due to our physical limitations that we would not be able to walk around outdoors as we had earlier, so how about a home where all the walls are basically windows.  This house was exactly what we needed and also what we wanted.

Debra showed us the other houses making notes of positives and negatives.   Finally, she said,  “What do you think?”

We looked at each other and together said, “***.”

We arranged what we hoped was a competitive bid, more than asked as was normal then and now in NRH.  We submitted it to the owner.  The next day the call came, “It’s yours.”

That was four years ago today.  We have enjoyed the home and had the kids and grandkids and other family and friends to come to visit us for short and long visits.  I have looked out the windows into the back yard trees blowing in the North Texas winds most days.  God has allowed the trees and flowers and birds and squirrels to perform for us most days as we come and go to the health club or our other activities.

Thank you God for answering our prayer for a house to put our home into.  Thanks you for our wonderful realtor, Debra Biggers.
