7.26-Self control over the tongue..
7.26-
There were three times that I remember my father in law, Ralph
Self, had an outstanding amount of self-control over his tongue.
There was that time when I left my house late in the evening
because I was upset and didn’t tell Sheila where I was going or when I would be
back. I drove over to a friend’s house
for some counsel. Sheila got worried and
called her dad. When I did get home
Sheila told me she had called her dad because she was very concerned. I felt I deserved to be yelled at by
him. I called him. He said,
“Larry, this is a problem between you and Sheila and you guys must solve
it.” I never heard him mention it again.
Ralph did a good job keeping his cars looking nice inside
and out. He parked his new Blue Buick
next to my car in my garage. I opened my
door too widely. When he found out that I
had put the first dent in it he said nothing to me about it. Nothing.
He had lovely light green Mercury. The interior was lovely and the same color as
the outside paint. He kept the upholstery
and the headliner clean and perfect. His
visor on the right side became loose in year six of the car, (he usually traded
every seven years). He took a safety pin
and pinned it up to the headliner.
Gladys knew not to put it down without taking out the safety pin. I was riding with him and didn’t notice the pinned
visor. I jerked it down quickly tearing
the headliner. Ralph said nothing
except. “Don’t worry about it. I will fix it later. No big deal.”
I was not surprised to see the green highlighting of this
verse.
James 1.
26 If anyone thinks himself
to be religious, and yet does not [ab]bridle his tongue but deceives his own
heart, this man’s religion is worthless.
