10.8-
The United States of America are meant to be United
"We the people of the United States, in order to form
a more perfect union."
Preamble to the Constitution of the United States of America
The founders of this nation wanted our nation to be
unified. Division into two parties which
don’t talk to each other and have nothing but hate for each other is not our founder's vision. United we stand. Divided we fall.
Our nation has divided into “silos” that are rarely if ever
communicating with each other. This is
sad.
In the last week I have had the word “democrat” and “republican”
used as a curse word almost.
I was in a
Bible class a few months ago when the informal freedom to make spontaneous
announcements was used to announce the location of a republican “caucus”. It happened that a relatively new member of
the congregation spoke up from the floor and protested this “republican party
announcement” from the floor. The
leaders of the class met shortly determined that there should be no
announcements in the class regarding political parties. The church is not the place for divisive
political matters.
I am afraid that our places of unity and joy in the community have been turned into division and hate in recent months and this is sad. Churches. Sports events. Coffee shops. Family gatherings. These have been turned into places of debate and argument and division.
I ask the readers of this to pray for our country to return to civility with each other and unity regardless of how their political leaders act. Follow Jesus, not people who are into money and power instead of love for people.
Matthew 12.
25 And knowing their thoughts Jesus said to them, “[x]Any kingdom divided against itself is laid waste; and [y]any city or house divided against itself will not stand.
Matthew 12.
25 And knowing their thoughts Jesus said to them, “[x]Any kingdom divided against itself is laid waste; and [y]any city or house divided against itself will not stand.
This was Jesus final prayer to His Father prior to going to
the cross.
John 17.
22 The glory which You have given Me I have
given to them, that they may be one, just as We are one; 23 I in them and You in Me,
that they may be perfected [g]in unity, so that the world may [h]know that You sent Me, and loved them, even
as You have loved Me. 24 Father,
I desire that they also, whom You have given Me, be with Me where I am, so that
they may see My glory which You have given Me, for You loved Me before the
foundation of the world.
