2.21-Feeling burned out?
2.21-
We need something in addition to our daily bread. The Holy Spirit who gives self-control
regarding how much and how often we need to eat and drink. God created us with a spiritual hunger in our
hearts.
Humans by their
nature are rebellious and foolish. Those
who follow in the footsteps of Jesus are always reaching out to the poor, the
prisoners and the oppressed.
Jesus was placed into the home of Jewish parents who made it
the family habit to gather with their community of faith to worship the Father
in heaven together. The congregation would
listen to reading from the scrolls and these reminded them that God’s work was
not simply gathering for worship, but scattering out to serve those in need.
Sometimes the insiders to religion get so into the insider
work, that they don’t serve those in need.
When they get corrected for their religion being off the rails, they
respond by getting rid of the messenger and His message.
Jesus was focused on
driving evil out of the community. He was amazing in His understanding of the
Father in heaven and His boldness to love and protect the oppressed.
Jesus was such a healer of people that more and more came to
Him. His rhythm was such that after
being drained with helping and healing He needed to get away by Himself to pray
and recharge His spiritual batteries. We
need more than filling with physical bread, we also need the spiritual bread of
life from time with our heavenly Father.
Luke 4.
4 Jesus,
full of the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan and was led around [a]by the Spirit in the wilderness 2 for forty days, being
tempted by the devil. And He ate nothing during those days, and when they had
ended, He became hungry. 3 And
the devil said to Him, “If You are the Son of God, tell this stone to become
bread.” 4 And
Jesus answered him, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live on
bread alone.’”
