Our knowledge of God often comes from our earthly father or it can come from things other people.  Religion gives off some ideas of God.  Many of these ideas of who God is are not accurate.
God is love according to Jesus.  God wants compassion to go out to the sick, the powerless and oppressed and the poor.  God wants repentant sinners to be loved.

Jesus presents God as our Father in heaven who want to quickly bless those who move to honesty and a willingness to change and do the right thing instead of the wrong thing.
Luke 15.
21 “The son said to him, ‘Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you. I am no longer worthy to be called your son.’
22 “But the father said to his servants, ‘Quick! Bring the best robe and put it on him. Put a ring on his finger and sandals on his feet. 23 Bring the fattened calf and kill it. Let’s have a feast and celebrate. 24 For this son of mine was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.’ So they began to celebrate.

Save your political action prayers for the meeting with your win/lose political party, whether you are democrat, republican or independependent as far as I'm concerned. Preach and sing the gospel but leave moral slobbery for some group that doesn't abuse children and cover it up and practices racism as a normal thing.
