Heavy load shaking.

 

2020. Covid 19. Financial losses and job losses in many industries around the world. Racial strife and tensions. Political division and hatred. Moral failure of religious leaders and political leaders. What is next? Locusts.

My washing machine. A heavy load. A light load.

My washing machine is about to shake itself into destruction. I get down on my knees with my pink foam knee pad. I get the tools I need. I make adjustments to the foot pads. The heavy load made a difference. With a light load it didn’t shake. With a heavy load it seemed to shake the washing machine and the house. I was taught to set things so that it can handle the heavy load or the light load.

Sheila and I have had some heavy load years, 1969-72. Moved jobs and houses every year or two. Hard financial set backs.

1975 we lost twins in a miscarriage. One of our favorite uncles died suddenly of a heart attack on the same day.

1989 we were building a church building in Denver and a big wind came up the only night that we left a second story wall up with minimum bracing. Whole wall blew down. Financial downturn in economy and had to stop in the middle of the building project. Walk by faith didn’t work.

2013 for the third year in a row we are in the E.R. with health issues. We cannot be physically moving at the time and rate needed for a full time minister. Sheila and I both have leg, knee and ankle issues and cannot live in a house with stairs. We must retire. Clear out 30 years of stuff in our home. Sell the house. Find a house. Leave beloved friends in Denver. Move to live near our son in Texas.

How can we stay steady and firm? Our parents had shown us. When you have good years, be joyful and grateful and store up a little for a rainy day. When you have a normal year. Be grateful and thank God for your health and your job. When you have a year of

Heavy load shaking.

 

Stand firm. Get on your knees. Make adjustments. Keep your faith in Jesus Christ. From Him you have received a life that cannot be shaken.

"And His voice shook the earth then, but now He has promised, saying, 'YET ONCE MORE I WILL SHAKE NOT ONLY THE EARTH, BUT ALSO THE HEAVEN.' This expression, 'Yet once more,' denotes the removing of those things which can be shaken, as of created things, so that those things which cannot be shaken may remain. Therefore, since we receive a kingdom which cannot be shaken, let us show gratitude, by which we may offer to God an acceptable service with reverence and awe; for our God is a consuming fire."
