Flowers. They communicate without words. Columbine. Uvalde. Flowers and more flowers.
My mother taught me about life with a show and tell approach. She hoed the weeds away from her iris flowers. In the springtime she made sure that hollyhocks were growing near the west side of our garage/smokehouse.
Iris bulbs became congratulation cards to our high school graduates in our back yard in the home we enjoyed in Colorado for thirty years.
When we had to say goodbye to our parents and other loved ones, flowers said to us, “This cut to your soul will lead to beauty and glory on the other side.”
This morning I looked out my back windows and saw those roses it lifted my spirit. Sheila had asked me to text Jose and ask him to prune the roses. I did so, but I also hated to have them cut back. I wondered if they would produce beauty after the cutting. He did cut them back and now, after a few days of sunshine and rain, here they are again. Thank you God.
Mother took me to start learning about life from Jesus Christ when I was one month old. The congregation where she took me was started in 1879. The first congregation of our type had been started over 2,000 years ago. The teacher who started building His church had a teaching about cutting grape vines producing more grapes.
John 15.
15 “I am the true vine, and My Father is the vinedresser. 2 Every branch in Me that does not bear fruit, He takes away; and every branch that bears fruit, He [a]prunes it so that it may bear more fruit.
God created and designed a world where beauty follows deep cuts. When you see a flower, I hope you can remember to keep your hope in the beauty and glory that comes after the cut. Maybe the cut is a disappointment in your plans for the experiences of your children before or after high school graduation that didn’t go exactly as planned. Maybe it was something of a cut in your “love life” that didn’t go exactly right. Your health didn’t stay on track with the plans you had made. Let the flowers speak to you and take time to look and listen and reflect on God’s show and tell for you.
After the cut comes the sunshine and the rain and more beauty a bit later.
