 6.5=

Robert Herrick was a poet I remember having to study in a college course. He wrote:
“Gather ye rose-buds while ye may,
Old Time is still a-flying;
And this same flower that smiles today
Tomorrow will be dying.
The glorious lamp of heaven, the sun,
The higher he’s a-getting,
The sooner will his race be run,
And nearer he’s to setting.
That age is best which is the first,
When youth and blood are warmer;
But being spent, the worse, and worst
Times still succeed the former.
Then be not coy, but use your time,
And while ye may, go marry;
For having lost but once your prime,
You may forever tarry.”
Amy and I watched a Italian language movie today, Still Time, which surprised me with its depth of meaning. A man had his 40th birthday party. For all his parties in the next eight years he woke up each year not rememberimg the whole year. The idea of the movie was that he had been so obsessed with his work that he didn’t have time to live his life. He missed the first ten years of his daughter’s life and constantly thought of nothing but his job and it turned out he had missed the good stuff in life.
“There are two days a year when nothing happens. Yesterday and tomorrow.”
“Days are long and years are short.”
I was reminded again to live each day fully. Enjoying the weekend with my daughter and I hope you all are enjoying your holiday weekend with family and friends. For the freedoms we enjoy in this nation there are many men and women who gave their lives for us to have what we have. Thank God for them.

Colossians 4.
Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful. And pray for us, too, that God may open a door for our message, so that we may proclaim the mystery of Christ, for which I am in chains. Pray that I may proclaim it clearly, as I should. Be wise in the way you act toward outsiders; make the most of every opportunity. Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone.
