7.16-
Do you remember a time when you moved out of a house where you had lived for thirty or more years?
I remember when my mom moved out of her house where she had lived all of her life. As we walked out of the door she said that she remembered walkinlg out this door on her way to her wedding. Now she was moving to the nursing home. She was praying to move to heaven every day after that I suspect.
I remember the night of the ninth of July in 2013, ten years ago. Sheila stayed up all night working through the night for the movers were to arrive on the 10th. She had so much she wanted to get done and she was the most committed worker so such projects as anyone I ever met. I was not so strong, but did get a few hours sleep.
Then the next morning the movers came for our move to North Richland Hills to begin a new phase of our life together. We had enjoyed 30 amazing years in this house that had stairs everwhere that didn't fit our life in our leg and ankle challenges. We needed to be in a ranch style home and all with no stairs.
We get our eyes so fixed on where we live and think that it will always remain so but before we know it the time has passed and that home doesn't fit our need.
I'm so happy that wisdom through the years has taught children of God what we should not get too focused and attached to the things we see. The things we see are temporary. We would be better to center our lives on the home that is unseen. We focus on our permanent home and our temporary homes will have more meaning.
We fix our eyes on the home that is unseen and each day becomes more precious.
Today is a special day in my memory of what happpened ten years ago today. Sheila was wise to invest herself in making our earthly home as full of good memories as possible, but be willing to release and move on when the time was right.
I admired her this past year for being so failthful to help me enjoy our home here the last year, but her release to that permanent invisible thome when Jesus was to take her was filled with her faith in Him.
Such deep memories. I suspect all you who read this have these kind of memories also.
2 Corinthians 4
16 Therefore we do not lose heart, but though our outer person is decaying, yet our inner person is being renewed day by day. 17 For our momentary, light affliction is producing for us an eternal weight of glory far beyond all comparison, 18 while we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen; for the things which are seen are temporal, but the things which are not seen are eternal.
