Larry Sheila Wedding Rings
My own selfishness regarding Sheila’s engagement ring became a subplot in our marriage story. Sheila forgave me and we went forward to grow together for 55 more years.
Sheila didn’t get her engagement ring until several years after we were married.
Why would you spend the money for an engagement ring on an accessory for your new car?
Because of the temptation to selfishness on my part.
We built our marriage on grace and mercy to provide the peace we enjoyed in our home. Our parents had shown it in the homes where we grew up.
Progress not perfection. The goal was to live life based on the perfection given to us as a children of God, but the performance was always being worked out.
June 29, 2967 we drove into a beautiful shopping mall in North Dallas, North Park, one of the few still standing today. We went to the Zales Jewelry there and bought our wedding rings.
Then we drove to visit with our parents and begin life with our families. Yes, in a sense we leave our father and mother and unite with each other, but there is an honor and support that goes out to our family in the best way we could. Sheila’s grandad Self passed in the summer of 1967.
Of these six people who helped us so much, Mom, Dad, Ralph and Gladys have all moved to heaven now as well as Sheila. On this day I remember to honor and celebrate the great lessons they all taught me.

6.29.24

Philippians 2.
Do nothing [c]from [d]selfishness or empty conceit, but with humility consider one another as more important than yourselves; do not merely look out for your own personal interests, but also for the interests of others. Have this attitude [e]in yourselves which was also in Christ Jesus, who, as He already existed in the form of God, did not consider equality with God something to be [f]grasped, but [g]emptied Himself by taking the form of a bond-servant and [h]being born in the likeness of men. And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death: death [i]on a cross. For this reason also God highly exalted Him, and bestowed on Him the name which is above every name, 10 so that at the name of Jesus every knee will bow, of those who are in heaven and on earth and under the earth, 11 and that every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
