When I think the world is about to blow apart
When I am feeling joyless,
Plant a new song in my heart O God.
When I am too adult to let go with shouts of Hosanna to
Jesus, the gentle king on a donkey,
Call forth this praise that is the basic purpose of
everything that has breath.
When I am thinking I am great or my group is great,
Remind me that it is the Lord who is great and worthy of
praise.
When I am thinking that money gives us direction.
Teach me with the widow’s mite that I am called to serve God
not money.
When I am feeling weak,
Fill me with the strength and glory of God.
When I drift into thinking the leaders of some religious
group are in charge,
Help me to say with the Psalmist, “The Lord reigns.”
When I think the world is about to blow apart.
Fill my heart with the reality that the world is firmly
established by God; It cannot be moved.
When I am dull and living a boring life without vision,
Open the eyes of my heart to see the majestic mountains and
the steady roaring of the tides.
When I don’t hear a word of witnesses to your grace.
Remind me that your witness is also rain and snow and the
product of the soil the fruits and vegetables on my table.
When I am prone to judge others for their lack of motivation,
Help me release all judgment to the gentle king, Jesus,
riding in from Nazareth to revolutionize my life.
Matthew 21.1-11, Psalm 96.
