7.28-We pray for unity among God's children and protection from the evil one.

7.28-
John 17.

17 Jesus spoke these things; and lifting up His eyes to heaven, He said, “Father, the hour has come; glorify Your Son, that the Son may glorify You, ² even as You gave Him authority over all flesh, that to ^[a]all whom You have given Him, He may give eternal life. ³ This is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent. ⁴ I glorified You on the earth, ^[b]having accomplished the work which You have given Me to do. ⁵ Now, Father, glorify Me together with Yourself, with the glory which I had with You before the world was.

⁶ “I have manifested Your name to the men whom You gave Me out of the world; they were Yours and You gave them to Me, and they have kept Your word. ⁷ Now they have come to know that everything You have given Me is from You; ⁸ for the words which You gave Me I have given to them; and they received them and truly understood that I came forth from You, and they believed that You sent Me. ⁹ I ask on their behalf; I do not ask on behalf of the world, but of those whom You have given Me; for they are Yours; ¹⁰ and all things that are Mine are Yours, and Yours are Mine; and I have been glorified in them. ¹¹ I am no longer in the world; and yet they themselves are in the world, and I come to You. Holy Father, keep them in Your name, the name which You have given Me, that they may be one even as We are. ¹² While I was with them, I was keeping them in Your name which You have given Me; and I guarded them and not one of them perished but the ^[c]son of perdition, so that the Scripture would be fulfilled.

The Disciples in the World

¹³ But now I come to You; and these things I speak in the world so that they may have My joy made full in themselves. ¹⁴ I have given them Your word; and the world has hated them, because they are not of the world, even as I am not of the world. ¹⁵ I do not ask You to take them out of the world, but to keep them ^[d]from ^[e]the evil one. ¹⁶ They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world. ¹⁷ Sanctify them in the truth; Your word is truth. ¹⁸ As You sent Me into the world, I also have sent them into the world. ¹⁹ For their sakes I sanctify Myself, that they themselves also may be sanctified in truth.
²⁰ “I do not ask on behalf of these alone, but for those also who believe in Me through their word; ²¹ that they may all be one; even as You, Father, are in Me and I in You, that they also may be in Us, so that the world may ^[f]believe that You sent Me.

Their Future Glory

²² The glory which You have given Me I have given to them, that they may be one, just as We are one; ²³ I in them and You in Me, that they may be perfected ^[g]in unity, so that the world may ^[h]know that You sent Me, and loved them, even as You have loved Me. ²⁴ Father, I desire that they also, whom You have given Me, be with Me where I am, so that they may see My glory which You have given Me, for You loved Me before the foundation of the world.
²⁵ “O righteous Father, ^[i]although the world has not known You, yet I have known You; and these have known that You sent Me; ²⁶ and I have made Your name known to them, and will make it known, so that the love with which You loved Me may be in them, and I in them.”

Psalm 55.

55 Give ear to my prayer, O God;
And do not hide Yourself from my supplication.
² Give heed to me and answer me;
I am restless in my complaint and ^[b]am surely distracted,
³ Because of the voice of the enemy,
Because of the pressure of the wicked;
For they bring down ^[c]trouble upon me
And in anger they bear a grudge against me.

⁴ My heart is in anguish within me,
And the terrors of death have fallen upon me.
⁵ Fear and trembling come upon me,
And ^[d]horror has overwhelmed me.
⁶ I said, “Oh, that I had wings like a dove!
I would fly away and ^[e]be at rest.
⁷ “Behold, I would wander far away,
I would lodge in the wilderness. ^[f]Selah.
⁸ “I would hasten to my place of refuge
From the stormy wind and tempest.”

^9 [g]Confuse, O Lord, divide their tongues,
For I have seen violence and strife in the city.
¹⁰ Day and night they go around her upon her walls,
And iniquity and mischief are in her midst.
¹¹ Destruction is in her midst;
Oppression and deceit do not depart from her ^[h]streets.

¹² For it is not an enemy who reproaches me,
Then I could bear it;
Nor is it one who hates me who has exalted himself against me,
Then I could hide myself from him.
¹³ But it is you, a man ^[i]my equal,
My companion and my ^[j]familiar friend;
¹⁴ We who had sweet ^[k]fellowship together
Walked in the house of God in the throng.
¹⁵ Let ^[l]death come deceitfully upon them;
Let them go down alive to ^[m]Sheol,
For evil is in their dwelling, in their midst.

¹⁶ As for me, I shall call upon God,
And the Lord will save me.
¹⁷ Evening and morning and at noon, I will complain and murmur,
And He will hear my voice.
¹⁸ He will redeem my soul in peace ^[n]from the battle which is against me,
For they are many who strive with me.
¹⁹ God will hear and ^[o]answer them—
Even the one who ^[p]sits enthroned from of old— Selah.
With whom there ^[q]is no change,
And who do not fear God.
²⁰ He has put forth his hands against those who were at peace with him;
He has ^[r]violated his covenant.
²¹ His ^[s]speech was smoother than butter,
But his heart was war;
His words were softer than oil,
Yet they were drawn swords.

²² Cast ^[t]your burden upon the Lord and He will sustain you;
He will never allow the righteous to ^[u]be shaken.
²³ But You, O God, will bring them down to the ^[v]pit of destruction;
Men of bloodshed and deceit will not live out half their days.
But I will trust in You.
