Short Cut to Comfort Food
Shortcut to comfort food.
When you live in North Richland Hills, Texas you are
surrounded by great opportunities. Lots
of fast food and comfort food. Many work
out places and weight loss companies. On
every corner, Weight Watchers, Slim for life, Curves, 24/hour fitness nearby Red Lobster and Olive Garden.
My wife and I celebrated our forty ninth anniversary this
year in several ways, but one was a trip to Red Lobster. When you leave the North Richland Hills
Centre aquatics workout and drive down highway 26 going southwest just prior to
Bedford Euless road there is a short cut to Red Lobster where there is
anniversary/comfort food. Ash
street. The problem is that it appears
to be a short cut, but really it’s a blind alley. You must then you must go left on Lazy Ln.
road and right on Maple street to actually get to Bedford Euless road where
the Red Lobster sits.
When you meditate in the desert times of your life there are
several things that you might remember. There
are short cuts that are actually blind alleys.
To avoid compassion by isolation is not a short cut but a
blind alley. I don't want to live at home with my mother and father. I'd rather be anywhere. I don't like this job where there is negative politics. I want one where the people are sane.
To engage in compassion, mercy and love is to have deep pain
about your own selfishness and limitations of wisdom and understanding.
It is to experience the friction of personality and
temperament problems in your own family.
It is to see immaturity close up and stay engaged. It is to never quit on your love for your
family though all of us are hard to love at times.
Then we go to work and find the same challenge is there. Our
work is to have compassion for our team members at work and stay engaged when
we have a particularly “incompetent” boss.
God help us to not be so interested in what people think of
us that we forget to love you first and then our neighbor as ourselves.
God help us to understand that you are not so interested in
our comfort and convenience as you are developing our character.
God help us to remember that lazy lane road is no short
cuts.
Matthew 16.
23 But He turned and said
to Peter, “Get behind Me, Satan! You are a stumbling
block to Me; for you are not setting your mind on [u]God’s interests, but man’s.”
