4.20-Careful with shadenfreude.

4.20-

Careful with shadenfreude.

Have you as a Christian allowed yourself to defend what your political allies do? Do you love your friends and hate your opponents? I hope not.  Jesus teaches us better...
  1. Were you glad when something bad happened to those you don’t agree with?  Matthew 5.
43 “You have heard that it was said, ‘Love your neighbor[i] and hate your enemy.’ 44 But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, 45 that you may be children of your Father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. 46 If you love those who love you, what reward will you get? Are not even the tax collectors doing that? 47 And if you greet only your own people, what are you doing more than others? Do not even pagans do that? 48 Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect.
  2. Proverbs 24.17
Do not gloat when your enemy falls; when they stumble, do not let your heart rejoice,
Schadenfreude is pleasure derived from the misfortunes of others. This word is taken from German and literally means "harm-joy". It is the feeling of joy or pleasure when one sees another fail or suffer misfortune. It is also borrowed by some other languages.
