8.27-Marching to the beat of a different drummer.
8.26-
John was a teacher who had a very strict way of life for his life. Jesus was known as one who hung out with gluttons and other sinners. People refused to repent at the preaching of both. To repent means to change your mind and change your heart and you actions. It is common for very religious people who talk about God a lot to be unwilling to change their own lives. Jesus said people found reasons to resist repentance.
Those who know God have a way of life that is very different from the world. They are interested in the blind and the lame. The world is not.
Proverbs 20.
24 Man’s steps are ordained by the Lord,
How then can man understand his way?
Jesus' followers march to a the beat of a different drum. His way wins in the long run of life. The world is looking for short term pleasure, God is looking out for the compassion and love for humanity.
"It is more blessed to give than receive." Acts 20.35
There are people who look for you and want to find you and be with you even if you are in a very bad place in life. These people are refreshment to our spirit.
2 Timothy 1.
15 You are aware of the fact that all who are in [k]Asia turned away from me, among whom are Phygelus and Hermogenes. 16 The Lord grant mercy to the house of Onesiphorus, for he often refreshed me and was not ashamed of my [l]chains; 17 but when he was in Rome, he eagerly searched for me and found me— 18 the Lord grant to him to find mercy from the Lord on that day—and you know very well what services he rendered at Ephesus.
Luke 7.
31 “To what then shall I compare the men of this generation, and what are they like? 32 They are like children who sit in the market place and call to one another, and they say, ‘We played the flute for you, and you did not dance; we sang a dirge, and you did not weep.’ 33 For John the Baptist has come eating no bread and drinking no wine, and you say, ‘He has a demon!’ 34 The Son of Man has come eating and drinking, and you say, ‘Behold, a gluttonous man and a [y]drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and [z]sinners!’ 35 Yet wisdom is vindicated by all her children.”
