11.16-I cannot control my sexual behavior. Is this true or false?
17 For Herod himself had sent and had John arrested and bound in prison on account of Herodias, the wife of his brother Philip, because he had married her. 18 For John had been saying to Herod, “It is not lawful for you to have your brother’s wife.” 19 Herodias had a grudge against him and wanted to put him to death and could not do so; 20 for Herod was afraid of John, knowing that he was a righteous and holy man, and he kept him safe. And when he heard him, he was very perplexed; [l]but he [m]used to enjoy listening to him. 21 A strategic day came when Herod on his birthday gave a banquet for his lords and [n]military commanders and the leading men of Galilee; 22 and when the daughter of Herodias herself came in and danced, she pleased Herod and [o]his dinner guests; and the king said to the girl, “Ask me for whatever you want and I will give it to you.” 23 And he swore to her, “Whatever you ask of me, I will give it to you; up to half of my kingdom.” 24 And she went out and said to her mother, “What shall I ask for?” And she said, “The head of John the Baptist.” 25 Immediately she came in a hurry to the king and asked, saying, “I want you to give me at once the head of John the Baptist on a platter.” 26 And although the king was very sorry, yet because of his oaths and because of [p]his dinner guests, he was unwilling to refuse her. 27 Immediately the king sent an executioner and commanded him to bring back his head. And he went and had him beheaded in the prison, 28 and brought his head on a platter, and gave it to the girl; and the girl gave it to her mother. 29 When his disciples heard about this, they came and took away his body and laid it in a tomb.
Human beings are not animals of intinct. They are to treat each other with respect and
dignity. For over 3,000 years they have
made laws in all nations restricting what is lawful and what is not
lawful. When a powerful government
leader is accused of doing something unlawful in regard to their morals it
causes some frustration and pain.
Because of this discomfort there are compromises made. Where there should be boundaries they are erased. Properly love and family life is
destroyed. 50% of our children in
schools are not in homes with their fathers now days. Can this be good? I don’t think so.
What is needed is for men and women of God to stand up for
what us just and righteous for God and for children.
Men and women of character who stay engaged in raising their
children in a godly way and then after they leave home they can still set an
example of steady faithfulness and be a resource for the grandchildren of what
a healthy male and female can do to bless others in this life.
Mark 6.
14 And King Herod heard of it, for
His name had become well known; and people were saying, “John the
Baptist has risen from the dead, and that is why these miraculous powers are at
work in Him.” 15 But
others were saying, “He is Elijah.” And others were saying, “He is a
prophet, like one of the prophets of old.” 16 But when Herod heard of
it, he kept saying, “John, whom I beheaded, has risen!”17 For Herod himself had sent and had John arrested and bound in prison on account of Herodias, the wife of his brother Philip, because he had married her. 1 Thessalonians 4.
4 Finally
then, brethren, we request and exhort you in the Lord Jesus, that as you
received from us instruction as to how you ought to [a]walk and please God (just as you actually do
[b]walk), that you excel still more. 2 For you know what
commandments we gave you [c]by the authority of the Lord Jesus.
3 For this is the will
of God, your sanctification; that is, that you abstain from [d]sexual immorality; 4 that each of you know how
to [e]possess his own [f]vessel in sanctification and honor,
5 not in [g]lustful passion, like the Gentiles who do
not know God; 6 and
that no man transgress and defraud his brother in the matter because the Lord
is the avenger in all these things, just as we also told you before and
solemnly warned you. 7 For God has not called us for the purpose of
impurity, but [h]in sanctification. 8 So, he who rejects this
is not rejecting man but the God who gives His Holy Spirit to you.
9 Now as to the love
of the brethren, you have no need for anyone to write to you, for you
yourselves are taught by God to love one another; 10 for indeed you do practice
it toward all the brethren who are in all Macedonia. But we urge you, brethren,
to excel still more, 11 and
to make it your ambition to lead a quiet life and attend to your own business
and work with your hands, just as we commanded you, 12 so that you will [i]behave properly toward outsiders and [j]not be in any need.
What we must all admit is that we fall short. Our standards of moral excellence fall short
of what they could be. We are all messed
up and broken. We need grace and mercy
from God.
1 Timothy 1.
12 I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who has strengthened
me, because He considered me faithful, putting me into service, 13 even though I was formerly
a blasphemer and a persecutor and a violent aggressor. Yet I was shown mercy
because I acted ignorantly in unbelief; 14 and the grace of our Lord was more than abundant,
with the faith and love which are found in Christ Jesus. 15 It is a trustworthy
statement, deserving full acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save
sinners, among whom I am foremost of all. 16 Yet for this reason I found
mercy, so that in me as the foremost, Jesus Christ might demonstrate His
perfect patience as an example for those [l]who would believe in Him for eternal life.
17 Now to the King [m]eternal, immortal, invisible, the only God, be
honor and glory [n]forever and ever. Amen.
