Boxing is one of the ancient sports mentioned in scripture that teaches lessons by Paul. He said he didn't play at boxing by "shadow boxing". He wrote, "We should run the race of life with excellent discipline."
About Olympic racers he said they execute high levels of discipline for the purpose of an earthly honor. We who have.been chosen for honor from our heavenly Father and made children of God by his grace and mercy should be motivated much more than Olypmic athletes.
One lesson from athletics is to know when to quit. For professional athletes that is difficult. Some say their total identity becomes the sport.
Demar Hamlin is a safety for Buffalo who nearly died on the field two years ago. He virtually died but was revived by the training staff.
Last night he was a starter who made a clean tackle on Tua Tungaloa, Miami's Q.B. who a cross on his cheeks. His neck was bent radically.
Tua didn't get up at first. He been out of football earlier because of concussions. He had two in a row in a four day period. Now he was down again. He is beloved by all his coaches and teamates and even opponents. I understand he is out for 10 days for evaluation.
He has made about 70 million plus and most sports pundits were saying he should hang it up and move to coaching or sportscaster.
This was being discussed by five of them. Three sportscaster and two former pro football players. Two were women. The two athletes didn't agree. One said he has 200 million more on the table for the long tern help of his family. He's always been a family business with other brother athletes. Mom and dad moved from Hawaii to live in an Alabama apartment to be near him.
One man was "mansplaing" to the two ladies how much men care about their family. One of the ladies got the floor and closed the conversation.
Regarding sacrifice for your family, "I have a scar, in fact two from hip to hip for my two babies brought into the world because I loved them and wanted to protect them. The fact is that the family needs you healthy more than your money." Bam. Mic drop.
I pray for his wisdom. guidance and health.
I remember they stopped the game the night Demar Hamlin went down.
Life is for football, not football for life.
We were created to glorify God and enjoy him forever. Even Lombardi said "Faith, then family, then football."
