-1.4-Can You Imagine the distress of having charge of the Christ child whom the king wants to kill?
Psalm 4.
8 In peace I will lie down and sleep,
for you alone, Lord,
make me dwell in safety.
Matthew 2.
13 When they had gone, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream. “Get up,” he said, “take the child and his mother and escape to Egypt. Stay there until I tell you, for Herod is going to search for the child to kill him.”
14 So he got up, took the child and his mother during the night and left for Egypt, 15 where he stayed until the death of Herod. And so was fulfilled what the Lord had said through the prophet: “Out of Egypt I called my son.”[c]
In distress with children turn to God. Sheila and I said just yesterday that the gift of our children and grandchildren is a gift of God's grace. How may nights of wondering would they come in from the highway on the first month of their driving? How would they handle that distress of losing a job or a special relationship? Trust in the Lord.
Psalm 4[a]
For the director of music. With stringed instruments. A psalm of David.
1 Answer me when I call to you,
my righteous God.
Give me relief from my distress;
have mercy on me and hear my prayer.
my righteous God.
Give me relief from my distress;
have mercy on me and hear my prayer.
4 Tremble and[d] do not sin;
when you are on your beds,
search your hearts and be silent.
5 Offer the sacrifices of the righteous
and trust in the Lord.
when you are on your beds,
search your hearts and be silent.
5 Offer the sacrifices of the righteous
and trust in the Lord.
6 Many, Lord, are asking, “Who will bring us prosperity?”
Let the light of your face shine on us.
7 Fill my heart with joy
when their grain and new wine abound.
Let the light of your face shine on us.
7 Fill my heart with joy
when their grain and new wine abound.
for you alone, Lord,
make me dwell in safety.
