2.20-What to think during times of destruction and hate?
2.20-
I lived in Denver Colorado during the Columbine Shooting and the Aurora Theatre Shooting. I remember the impact in had on our whole community. There is a form of PTSD that all these students and citizens went through and I feel today for the families in Parkland, Florida.
People can be awful. People can be great. You see both in times like these. God has given us authorities to bring order and peace to people.
He raises up certain men and women to speak strong truth to these leaders who push them for change in a positive direction.
A healthy relationship with God is not a matter of which nation you come from our which section of that nation. It is a matter of choosing to believe in the good news of God's love. It is not about religion, but relationship.
The prophet who set up the work of Jesus cried out for people to quit living lives of selfishness, but rather to share with those in need. Reflections of selfishness can be seen in our heartless greed and idolatry. To see this is very disappointing to us about the human race.
At the same time in our communities we see the work of some great people. Teachers, coaches, first responders who come to care for those in trouble.
Godly men and women have also demanded that the nations leaders live lives that are an example to those they lead. Love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control are things that will bless the people in all situations. This life leads to contentment. There are many people living this very kind of life in the midst of our schools and our communities. Thank God for them.
It is not uncommon for people to get hurt for doing that which is right.
I will be praying for those students and families in Parkland Florida today and I hope you will. They need it.
But as for me, I choose to focus on this day and every day the men and women who are doing the right thing and helping those in trouble, rather than on the ones causing the trouble.
Psalm 41.
41 How blessed is he who considers the [a]helpless;
The LORD will deliver him in a day of [b]trouble.
2 The LORD will protect him and keep him alive,
And he shall [c]be called blessed upon the earth;
