1.15-
38 Now as they were traveling along, He
entered a village; and a woman named Martha welcomed Him into her home. 39 She had a sister called Mary,
who was seated at the Lord’s feet, listening to His word. 40 But Martha was distracted
with [q]all her preparations; and she came up to
Him and said, “Lord, do You not care that my sister has left me to do all
the serving alone? Then tell her to help me.” 41 But the Lord answered and
said to her, “Martha, Martha, you are worried and
bothered about so many things; 42 but only one thing is necessary, for Mary
has chosen the good part, which shall not be taken away from her.”
Last night I was invited into the home of a couple who have
been given the gift of hospitality by God.
Even though it is a gift from God, it takes many hours of work to make
their home the way they want it to be for their guests. It is clean and neat. There is as much comfort as possible from the
standpoint of cool in the summer and warm in the winter. There are lovely flowers to look at. There is ice water and coffee if needed. There are some snacks available, but the main
purpose is a spiritual feast, not a physical one.
When you come there you feel welcomed. Usually and smile and handshake or hug from
Jack or Judy. It might be just an unlocked
door because they are still busy getting ready to received guests. Many jobs from vacuuming to dusting and
straightening up is a part of preparing for guests. It is a gift, but comes with much work, hard
work.
There is there a couple who are not distracted. They are focused on serving Jesus by serving
their guests.
They are prepared in heart, soul and mind to uplift and encourage
who have been invited to their home.
They are willing to share in a vulnerable way the
frustrations that are included in their life.
This connects them deeply to the people in the group.
They listen to Jesus.
They read Jesus’ word. They want
to encourage all of us to sit at the feet of Jesus and receive a blessing from
the love that flows from the heart of God into our hearts.
They also listen to our frustrations and then offer a time
of prayer for all of us in the group.
They pour out hospitality like a precious ointment to smooth
out our lives the best they can.
They prepare us for every day in life, but also prepare us
for the changes of life that are upcoming whether we know what the changes are
or not.
If you have a couple who invite your into their home for
Jesus’ centered hospitality you are a very blessed person.
They make you feel completely at home in their home because
they have surrendered their home to be Jesus’ home to be a blessing to others.
Thank you God for Jack and Judy Farrow.
Luke 10.
Matthew 26.
6 Now when Jesus was in Bethany, at the home of Simon the
leper, 7 a woman came to Him with an alabaster vial of very
costly perfume, and she poured it on His head as He reclined at the table.
8 But the disciples were indignant when they saw this,
and said, “Why this waste? 9 For this perfume might have
been sold for a high price and the money given to the poor.” 10 But
Jesus, aware of this, said to them, “Why do you bother the woman? For she has
done a good deed to Me. 11 For you always have the poor with
you; but you do not always have Me. 12 For when she poured this
perfume on My body, she did it to prepare Me for burial. 13 Truly
I say to you, wherever this gospel is preached in the whole world, what this
woman has done will also be spoken of in memory of her.”
