4.20.20-Perseverance comes from having our eyes fixed on something besides the current storm.

4.20-

Perseverance.

Today I had a meeting with some guys I started walking through life with over forty three years ago. Our children were just children and now their children are college graduates.
Our meetings together have been to study the life of Jesus who was born about 2020 years ago. We mark time by His birth.
 Perseverance.

These guys have been with me when I was falling on my face with my best dreams crushed to the earth.
We watched as plans evolved for building up a new congregation in a suburb of Denver. We had a huge wall of our church building up and overnight a giant wind came up and blew the entire wall down into smithereens.
Perseverance.

We watched as our children went to college on plan A and later had to move to plan B.
Perseverance

Though one recently lost his wife he perseveres.
They had the same friendliness and steady joy that they have possessed all the time I have known them. Their faithfulness through the years I something I attribute to their fixing their eyes on their lifetime role model.

Perseverance comes from having our eyes fixed on something besides the current storm.
Storms come up in the life of all of us. Storms of our marriages nearly breaking up because we resisted being flexible and deeply listening to our wives.
The tornado of teen choices being so off the charts of best wisdom.
The hurricane of our own bad habits regarding eating and exercise and other less that best practices in all of our lives.

Perseverance.
They did not look at the winds.
They had fixed their eyes on the lifetime role model.
Now all people around the world are experiencing the pandemic of the Corona Virus.
As we took the opportunity available because for the current time we meet with Zoom I could join them in Denver from the same chair I would have joined my men’s group in Fort Worth.
I had not been with all of them together since I moved from Denver to Fort Worth seven years ago.
They had not changed in attitude and spirit from the last week I met with them when I moved from Denver. Smiling at the future with hope as the anchor of their souls.
This gave my heart great joy.
Perseverance.

They did not look at the winds.
They had fixed their eyes on the lifetime role model, Jesus.

Matthew 14.
22 Immediately He [l]made the disciples get into the boat and go ahead of Him to the other side, while He sent the crowds away. 23 After He had sent the crowds away, He went up on the mountain by Himself to pray; and when it was evening, He was there alone. 24 But the boat was already [m]a long distance from the land, [n]battered by the waves; for the wind was [o]contrary. 25 And in the [p]fourth watch of the night He came to them, walking on the sea. 26 When the disciples saw Him walking on the sea, they were terrified, and said, “It is a ghost!” And they cried out [q]in fear. 27 But immediately Jesus spoke to them, saying, “Take courage, it is I; do not be afraid.”
28 Peter said to Him, “Lord, if it is You, command me to come to You on the water.” 29 And He said, “Come!” And Peter got out of the boat, and walked on the water and came toward Jesus. 30 But seeing the wind, he became frightened, and beginning to sink, he cried out, “Lord, save me!” 31 Immediately Jesus stretched out His hand and took hold of him, and *said to him, “You of little faith, why did you doubt?” 32 When they got into the boat, the wind stopped. 33 And those who were in the boat worshiped Him, saying, “You are certainly God’s Son!”
