4.21-There is a hunger in the human heart.

4.21-

All of you who know me know well that self-control, balance and moderation is a constant challenge for me and maybe for most all of us. There is a Proverb which says, “Have you found honey? Eat only what you need.” Our bodies have a hunger for certain things. Protein. Carbs. Healthy fats. Fruit. Veggies. Most of us know what healthy eating looks like in terms of choices and amounts. Our weight issues, for most of us, is not about knowledge, but our practice. Our disciplines.
There is a hunger in the human heart. We want at the basic end of things to have bread and water and maybe some fish. At the other end we are tempted to forfeit our souls for this world. The evil one knows that humans have been created by God with some natural needs or hungers.

The problem comes when we fill that hunger with the wrong things. Here are some things Jesus mentioned that are hunger for the wrong things.

Some might surprise you.
Scripture that is not Jesus centered.
Religion that is more focused on men’s tradition that God’s will.
Religion that doesn't major in mercy, justice and faithfulness
Religion that doesn't take care of the widows and orphans.
Fixing the meal perfectly without attention to listening deeply to Jesus.

Some are not surprising to you probably.
Money.
Things of the flesh. Evil thoughts. Murder. Adultery. Sexual immorality. Theft. False testimony. Slander.

The real hunger God has placed into our hearts is for Himself and His Son Jesus. Until this hunger is satisfied by getting up early and looking at nature and talking to our heavenly Father and meditating on our Father in heaven we will not have a proper satisfaction of our hunger.
At the bottom of it there is a hunger for the bread of life who is Jesus.

Give us this day our daily bread.

Matthew 4.
Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. And after He had fasted forty days and forty nights, He [a]then became hungry. And the tempter came and said to Him, “If You are the Son of God, command that these stones become bread.” But He answered and said, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God.’”

Matthew 5.
“Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied.

26 For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world and forfeits his soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul?

Luke 10.
38 Now as they were traveling along, He entered a village; and a woman named Martha welcomed Him into her home. 39 She had a sister called Mary, who was seated at the Lord’s feet, listening to His word. 40 But Martha was distracted with [q]all her preparations; and she came up to Him and said, “Lord, do You not care that my sister has left me to do all the serving alone? Then tell her to help me.” 41 But the Lord answered and said to her, “Martha, Martha, you are worried and bothered about so many things; 42 but only one thing is necessary, for Mary has chosen the good part, which shall not be taken away from her.”

 John 4.

31 Meanwhile the disciples were urging Him, saying, “Rabbi, eat.” 32 But He said to them, “I have food to eat that you do not know about.” 33 So the disciples were saying to one another, “No one brought Him anything to eat, did he?” 34 Jesus *said to them, “My food is to do the will of Him who sent Me and to accomplish His work.

John 5.
39 [i]You search the Scriptures because you think that in them you have eternal life; it is these that testify about Me; 40 and you are unwilling to come to Me so that you may have life.

John 6.

27 Do not work for the food which perishes, but for the food which endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give to you, for on Him the Father, God, has set His seal.”

35 Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life; he who comes to Me will not hunger, and he who believes in Me will never thirst

68 Simon Peter answered Him, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have words of eternal life.

 John 12.

21 these then came to Philip, who was from Bethsaida of Galilee, and began to ask him, saying, “Sir, we wish to see Jesus.”
