5.9- Jesus didn’t see “us” versus “them”. He saw each individual.
5.9-
Luke 18. 9 And He also told this parable to
some people who trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and viewed
others with contempt: 10 “Two
men went up into the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax
collector. 11 The
Pharisee stood and was praying this to himself: ‘God, I thank You that I am not
like other people: swindlers, unjust, adulterers, or even like this tax
collector. 12 I
fast twice a week; I pay tithes of all that I get.’ 13 But the tax collector, standing
some distance away, was even unwilling to lift up his eyes to heaven, but was
beating his breast, saying, ‘God, be [f]merciful to me, the sinner!’ 14 I tell you, this man went
to his house justified rather than the other; for everyone who exalts himself
will be humbled, but he who humbles himself will be exalted.”
12 There is a [e]kind who is pure in his own eyes,
Yet is not washed from his filthiness.
13 There is a [f]kind—oh how lofty are his eyes!
And his eyelids are raised in arrogance.
14 There is a [g]kind of man whose teeth are like swords
And his jaw teeth like knives,
To devour the afflicted from the earth
And the needy from among men.
Jesus loved people and that is why He pushed evil away from
them. There is evil that seems so pure
and arrogant, conceited and self-righteous.
Jesus didn’t see “us” versus “them”. He saw each individual. We labed.
Vikings or Victims. Whore, sluts
or princess. Numbskulls and nincompoops.
Nerds or jocks. It’s simply a labeling
process for too many of us. Not Jesus.
