2.11-Sometimes you want to go where everyone knows your name.
2.11-
The basic unit of getting to know Jesus is in a family and/or a youth group, campus group, men's group or ladies class or Sunday school or community group. This seems to be to be correct whether you attend a congregation of 50 or 5,000.
What people wanted was to go be with Jesus where He was staying. They stayed and spent the night with Him.
They wanted others to get to know Jesus after getting to know Him. Andrew wanted to go find his brother, Peter. Peter became a close friend of Jesus and preached the very first sermon to begin the church even though he had denied he even knew Jesus. He was to become a very effective shepherd.
John 1.
37 When the two disciples heard him say this, they followed Jesus. 38 Turning around, Jesus saw them following and asked, “What do you want?”
They said, “Rabbi” (which means “Teacher”), “where are you staying?”
39 “Come,” he replied, “and you will see.”
So they went and saw where he was staying, and they spent that day with him. It was about four in the afternoon.
40 Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, was one of the two who heard what John had said and who had followed Jesus. 41 The first thing Andrew did was to find his brother Simon and tell him, “We have found the Messiah” (that is, the Christ). 42 And he brought him to Jesus.
Jesus looked at him and said, “You are Simon son of John. You will be called Cephas” (which, when translated, is Peter[g]).
Acts 2.
42 They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. 43 Everyone was filled with awe at the many wonders and signs performed by the apostles. 44 All the believers were together and had everything in common. 45 They sold property and possessions to give to anyone who had need. 46 Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, 47 praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.
In these home environments we all know each other by name. We know the challenges and struggles each has. We know the chinks in the armor. We know the people "warts and all'. We find they are like us in some ways and they have learned how to cope more effectively than we have perhaps in some areas.
This is the basic learning unit about Jesus and His word and His way and His lifestyle. It is very close up and very wonderful. If someone has a birthday party we sing and celebrate. If someone has a grief we share it.
