Our life is affected by where we think we came from and where we are going.
If we can from and random accident of nature and there is no God
And we are going to die and become dust and our spirit and soul does not survive for judgement and eternity in heaven or hell then that sets up a life and lifestyle.
If we believe that we were created in the image of God.
If we believe we are created for the pursuit of happiness.
If we believe that we will die someday and there will be a judgment and consequences of our choices then that sets up a certain way of life.

1 Corinthians 4.
4 This, then, is how you ought to regard us: as servants of Christ and as those entrusted with the mysteries God has revealed. 2 Now it is required that those who have been given a trust must prove faithful. 3 I care very little if I am judged by you or by any human court; indeed, I do not even judge myself. 4 My conscience is clear, but that does not make me innocent. It is the Lord who judges me. 5 Therefore judge nothing before the appointed time; wait until the Lord comes. He will bring to light what is hidden in darkness and will expose the motives of the heart. At that time each will receive their praise from God.

He is compassionate. He is gracious. he is slow to anger.  He is abounding in love.  4.24- Spiritual growth with God happens most commonly in times of intense stress and suffering. Scripture indicates the best prayers are honest conversations between God and some of His children.  Moses. Jonah.
