Human beings have hearts that are vulnerable and so need encouragement.  By taking all opportunities to encourage people there is a chance to keep hearts soft and open to love.  Be kind.  Look for opportunities to uplift people. 

Hebrews 3.
12 See to it, brothers and sisters, that none of you has a sinful, unbelieving heart that turns away from the living God. 13 But encourage one another daily, as long as it is called “Today,” so that none of you may be hardened by sin’s deceitfulness.

He is compassionate. He is gracious. he is slow to anger.  He is abounding in love.  4.24- Spiritual growth with God happens most commonly in times of intense stress and suffering. Scripture indicates the best prayers are honest conversations between God and some of His children.  Moses. Jonah.
