God teaches us the keys to being a generous person.

Hebrews 8.
God forgives and forgets our sins, failures and mistakes.  Forgets?  Yes, Forgets.

Revelations 8.
God hears the prayers of His children and responds with compassion.

He is compassionate. He is gracious. he is slow to anger.  He is abounding in love.  4.24- Spiritual growth with God happens most commonly in times of intense stress and suffering. Scripture indicates the best prayers are honest conversations between God and some of His children.  Moses. Jonah.
