The Ten Commandments For Positive Use of FB and other social media

1.      If it is not good for you to share your life with others there do not use it.
2.      Leave freedom for those who may find it useful to spread good news to their family, friends and people around the world.  Do not hate the messenger just because some of the news is bad.  From cave etchings to today’s social media there is a desire to give and receive the news of people’s lives.
3.      Keep in mind some will misuse it as they have the printed word and slick color magazine, but that doesn’t mean that the instrument cannot be used for good things.
4.      Remember that in a free society elections will have important results and any means of changing minds will be used.  The evil men and women will use these methods for bad news.  We must use them for good news.
5.      From high school students to shut ins’ in nursing homes, FB and other social media is the only connection that cannot be blocked by one’s travel limitations and it keeps people alive in some cases.
6.      Try to focus on improving the use of a communication device instead of being against it totally.
7.      Do not think that just because it takes a while to learn how to put guard rails around something like social media that the genie will go back in the bottle.
8.      Be aware that in some countries the only freedom they have to learn a better way of life comes through social media.
9.      Work to pass laws that help people to be better informed and safe when you have opportunity.
10.  Remember as you battle the alligators of smart phones and social media that the basic job is to drain the swamp of hate and fill it with love in our homes, schools and nations.
